The Sato Foundation provides support for cultural and educational programs, seminars,
and outreach activities, primarily for youth, in order to develop and enhance life
skills. Life skills refer to those skills that increase a person's understanding
of their world, promote personal responsibility and promote the broader responsibilities
inherent as a citizen of the world. These skills should also help to guide a person
towards making a positive contribution to their community.

The Sato Foundation provides support for exchange activities that improve and foster
communication between citizens of different countries, particularly between the U.S.
and Japan. Specifically, exchanges should offer participants a chance to share views
on common concerns, as well as an opportunity to discuss contemporary domestic and
international issues that face the countries involved. Exchanges should involve particular
communities or geographic regions. In the area of youth exchange, the Foundation
encourages programs that offer young people an opportunity for serious, structured
discussion and engagement on specific issues of common concern.
